BMW is committed to ensuring you, your passengers, and other road users are as safe as possible when you’re behind the wheel. The luxury car manufacturer equips every vehicle with a vast array of BMW safety features and cutting-edge tech to elevate the driving experience. As your local BMW dealer, we look at some of the safety features that make your BMW a secure drive.

From your Local BMW Dealer: Understanding BMW Safety Features

Each BMW is kitted out with sensors and cameras that gather information on speed limits, lane markings, road conditions, objects ahead, and the proximity of other vehicles. This data feeds into advanced driver assist systems which warn you of potential hazards through visual and audible alerts. Some of these systems automatically take evasive action, such as applying the brakes and adjusting your speed, to help prevent accidents.

Lane Keeping Assistant

Forward-facing cameras read the road ahead so the Lane Keeping Assistant can help you stay in your lane on the highway. If you drift towards either the left or right lane markers without signaling first, your Bimmer will automatically adjust the steering to bring you back safely into the center of the lane.

Lane Change Assistant

BMW takes the Lane Keeping Assistant one step further. When driving on a multi-lane highway at over 45 miles per hour, activate the Lane Change Assistant to help you safely negotiate lane changes. Once turned on, this useful feature will move you seamlessly into other lanes and suggest lane changes when traffic is moving faster in another lane or when your navigation app requires you to move into another lane.

Highway Assist

When driving on controlled-access highways, let your BMW take over the reins with Highway Assist. Although you must remain attentive, it gives you the chance to relax your arms by allowing hands-free driving at speeds below 85 miles per hour.

Distance Control

Use Distance Control to set the distance you wish to be from the car ahead. Cameras and sensors monitor the vehicle ahead, automatically slowing your BMW down when it detects the other car has reduced its speed.

Forward Collision Mitigation

Using forward-facing cameras, your Bimmer keeps an eye on the road, looking out for pedestrians, bicycles, vehicles, and other obstacles you may otherwise miss. Forward Collision Mitigation will alert you to any objects and, if necessary, safely apply automatic braking to help avoid potential accidents.

From Lane Keeping Assist to Forward Collision Mitigation, BMW incorporates advanced tech features into its vehicles to enhance the driving experience and ensure you, your passengers, and other road users remain as safe as possible.
